Detention

  • Any student may be detained after-class for violation of any school rule, classroom rule, or any general disciplinary infraction that interferes with the educational process.
  • Official after-class detentions may be assigned by teachers, educational technicians, counselors, assistant principal or the principal.
  • Detention starts immediately after class. The detention teacher may assign work. Failure to follow the rules of DETENTION may result in an extension of the time, isolated supervision, parental conference, in-school suspension, detention or additional detention.
  • Once detention is assigned, it will not be rescheduled. There shall be no exceptions.
  • Detention takes precedence over all other school activities.

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Detention begins promptly at after class.
    • If you try to leave, then you will serve your detention and an additional detention days.
  2. Students must stay for 1 (one) complete hour.
    • Do not ask to leave before then.
    • Let your detention teacher contact your parents/ride that you will be staying for 1 (one) hour.
  3. Make sure that you leave of your belongings outside before entering detention.
  4. Use the restroom/bathroom and/or get a drink before entering detention.
    • If you leave to go to the restroom/bathroom, you must stay for the current time and serve an additional day of detention.
  5. You may not leave detention to make a phone call home.
    • If you choose to do so, then you must stay for the current time and serve an additional 1 (one) hour of detention.
    • You may ask your detention teacher to contact your parents that you will be staying for detention.
  6. When you are in detention you will be assigned a seat.
    • You must remain in that seat for the entire time.
    • Do not get up from the seat to dispose of trash, sharpen your pencil, get a book, ask a question, etc.
    • There is NO roaming around the room.
    • If you have a problem, raise your hand and wait to be called on.
  7. There is NO eating, chewing gum, or drinking in detention.
  8. No jackets, hats, hoods, or sunglasses will be worn in detention.
  9. There is no talking, passing notes or communicating between students of any kind.
  10. No electronic devices (cell phones, Ipods, Iphones, Ipads, mp3 players, etc.) of any kind may be used.
    • All cell phones must be turned off – this means NO VIBRATE MODE may be used.
    • Any electronic device that is seen or heard will be confiscated.
  11. You may not close your eyes, put your head down on the desk, or lay your head back.
    • There is no sleeping or resting in detention.
  12. English homework assignments and reading books are acceptable activities for detention.
    • There will be no drawing, doodling, reading of magazines, or any other activity deemed inappropriate by the detention teacher.
    • If you come unprepared, then you will be instructed to complete an assignment given by the detention teacher (for example, copy pages from the dictionary or other tasks/projects).
  13. All school rules still apply in detention.
  14. The first time that you are asked to leave detention for inappropriate behavior, you will be assigned 2 (two) additional hours of detention.
    • This is at the discretion of the administration.
  15. The second, and subsequent time(s) that you are asked to leave detention for inappropriate behavior, you will be be suspended out of school.
    • This is at the discretion of the administration.
